The BC Government intends to establish a new 483 hectare provincial park above Skaha Lake in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. With help from the federal government and other partners like the Land Conservancy of British Columbia, 304 hectares of private lands were purchased for $5.25 million in January, 2008. This was done to secure public access to an existing 179 hectares of Crown Land, in which the actual Skaha Bluffs are located. Just below Skaha Bluffs near Penticton, Barry checks out the trails before authorizing $1.25 million from the Ministry of Environment to help secure 304 hectares of private land (behind him and above Skaha Lake). Barry and Gene MacInnes of the Ministry of Forests survey the damage caused by a massive slide into Chehalis Lake. The slide triggered a tsunami-like wave which destroyed a recreation site and caused extensive damage to the area surrounding the lake as well as leaving a large amount of debris in the lake.
